Abstract:
Recent legislation to approve Over the Counter Hearing Aids has created a new device type in our market. A new test standard has been developed for testing OTC aids, which is both similar to and different than older ANSI test standards. In this presentation, we will summarize the background of each test standard, and compare them on how and why they were developed, what range of tests each one recommends, and appraise the information that each test set will generate. Sample results will be provided to illustrate these differences. Audience participation will be encouraged through group discussion and case examples.

Summary:
Recent legislation to approve Over the Counter Hearing Aids has created a new device type in our market. A new test standard has been developed for testing OTC aids, which is both similar to and different than older ANSI test standards. In this presentation, we will summarize the background of each test standard, and compare them on how and why they were developed, what range of tests each one recommends, and appraise the information that each test set will generate. Sample results will be provided to illustrate these differences. Audience participation will be encouraged through group discussion and case examples across a variety of test result profiles to encourage: (a) accurate interpretation of results; (b) illustration of key differences between ANSI and OTC test sequences; (c) impact of technology types on test results; and (d) implications for clinical practices that may incorporate these tests for device testing.
