LM405 - From Boomer to Zoomer: Effective Communication Across Generations

Abstract:
The course will focus on laying out key differences in communication modes and preferences across members of the 6 different generations that may be employed by or a patient of any given practice. The course will also outline strategies and steps to communicate in ways that increase receptivity, positivity, and engagement. Special attention paid to common communication situations that practices often experience.

Summary:
Professionals in the audiology industry need to be able to effectively communicate across all generations. Providers and patients alike range in age, so it’s imperative to learn diverse strategies for communication. This course will begin by defining each generation: Greatest Generation, Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, The Millennials, and Generation Z.

Throughout the course participants will learn the key differences in communication modes and preferences across members of the 6 different generations that may be employed by or a patient of any given practice. The course will also outline strategies and steps to communicate in ways that increase receptivity, positivity, and engagement. Special attention will be paid to common situations that many practices often encounter, such as a younger provider speaking with a much elder patient, or an elder practice owner interacting with a younger staff member.

By the end of the course, participants will have a thorough understanding of each generations’ common values, perceptions, and effective ways to engage with them. Conversations during the diagnostic and treatment process as well as team dynamics will be enhanced after completing this course.
