ReSound Omnia uses a multiband approach to directionality in which binaural beamforming is limited to mid-frequencies for speech understanding. Greater precision in this region boosts the Directivity Index (DI) by approximately 5 dB relative to legacy technology. Above 5000 Hz, fixed directionality is applied to preserve monaural spectral cues. Below a crossover frequency, omnidirectional processing is applied. This has the advantage of preserving Interaural Timing Differences (ITD) for localization and keeping own voice perception natural. Research studies which demonstrate the effectiveness of binaural beamformer technology will be discussed in this presentation.
Learning Objectives:
After this course, participants will be able to detail the benefits which a multiband directionality approach provides for hearing aid users.
After this course, participants will be able to describe differences in binaural beamformers utilized in modern hearing aids.
After this course, participants will be able to explain how advances in directional technology can improve user’s own voice perceptions.
