Abstract: To expand their value in the healthcare arena, audiologists are beginning to recognize the importance of promoting hearing health in the broader context of healthy living. Relying on recent evidence-based reviews and meta-analyses, this mini-module examines the role of the audiologist in promoting emotional well-being and how the provision of health tracking apps can provide value insights.
Summary: Healthy hearing results in positive health outcomes, increases social engagement, improves communication, and lowers the risk of depression. It is apparent that quality of life can decrease when the sense of hearing is impaired, however hearing aid owners remains mired in low uptake rates that hover around 40%. This mini module consists of the following three sections: One, it explores the relationship between hearing loss and emotional well-being, Two, it discusses how hearing aid use can improve emotional well-being. Three, it considers how audiologists can use health tracking apps to promote emotional well-being in hearing aid wearers.
