MM101 - Building Sustainability into Your Practice: Environmental Considerations

Abstract:
Environmental sustainability has taken on greater prominence in all of healthcare. Clinical audiologists, for example, recognize the importance of creating and maintaining an environmentally sustainable practice. This mini-module focuses on the role of the audiologist in reducing their environmental footprint, and how changes to products and protocols can be integrated into creating a more eco-friendly practice.

Summary:
"Anything that we can't do forever is by definition unsustainable." Although this famous quote, attributed to English broadcaster and biologist David Attenborough, underscores the destructive nature of climate change to the planet, it also applies on a smaller scale to a more ecologically sustainable way of practicing Audiology.

This mini-module demonstrates how rechargeability, recycling supplies and reducing the use of paper and plastic results in a significantly smaller environmental footprint. More broadly, this course addresses the need for clinicians to partner with vendors who share the same sustainability values.

Finally, this course, examines how the hearing industry is reworking its manufacturing processes to ensure their contribution to long-term sustainability of the environment is maintained. Ideas of what and how to implement sustainable practices into your practice will be shared.
