Almara Hutchinson, M.A., is a Speech and Language Pathologist and has been an Assistant Professor in the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders at West Virginia University since August 2021. Almara's background includes working with children in Pennsylvania public schools to improve their speech and language needs. She has also worked with adults on cognition, swallowing, and memory in skilled nursing facilities across Pennsylvania. Almara has assisted with development and research regarding the Division's Competency-Based Assessment of Professional Skills (CAPS) which includes assessments that focus on emotionally intelligent interview skills, ethics and advocacy, culturally responsive practices, and led the development of a curriculum assessment process.
