Dr. Melissa Polonenko a clinician-scientist with a passion for understanding how infants and children with normal hearing and hearing loss learn to communicate and navigate within their world. She worked full-time as an Audiologist before pursuing her doctorate from The University of Toronto at SickKids Hospital and postdoctoral work in Rochester NY. As an assistant professor at UMN, her lab’s research focuses on developing new ways to assess hearing, vestibular, and multi-sensory function and to evaluate outcomes with hearing devices (hearing aids, cochlear implants) -- ultimately supporting children’s developmental trajectory and improving their interactions within their environment and with the people around them.
