Ishara Ramkissoon, Ph.D.,CCC-A is Associate Professor in Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences (HSLS) at Gallaudet University. Dr. Ramkissoon teaches in the Doctor of Audiology program and supports PhD training. Her professional focus is cultural responsiveness in education and practice. Dr. Ramkissoon’s research utilizes quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate effects of multicultural factors, aging, and environmental variables on auditory function and clinical practice. Previously, she garnered external grant support, and disseminated her research through conference presentations and scholarly publications. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Ramkissoon practiced clinically for 11 years as an Audiologist and Speech Therapist in in South Africa and in the United States. Dr. Ramkissoon serves on the ASHA International Issues Board. Her previous service includes journal Editor for Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interests Group 8 (Public Health Audiology), member of the ASHA Multicultural Issues Board, and member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Global Engagement.
