Prof. Lena Wong is Professor in Audiology at the Faculty of Education, the University of Hong Kong; and a Past-President of the International Society of Audiology. She was formerly a research and clinical audiologist at the House Ear Institute. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Queensland.
Her research interests include barriers and facilitators of hearing aid uptake, outcome measurement of amplification devices, and speech and tone perception. She is the primary editor of the book “Evidence-Based Practice in Audiology: Evaluating Interventions for Children and Adults with Hearing Impairment”. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and an elected Fellow of the International Collegium of Rehabilitative Audiology (ICRA). She is an associate editor for the International Journal of Audiology and a consulting editor for the Journal of the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Taiwan. She is also a consultant/advisor for private companies, various professional organizations and charities.
Prof. Wong is a recipient of the Faculty Outstanding Researcher Award and led the academic staff at her Division in obtaining the Faculty Team Teaching Award. She established the first Master’s degree Audiology training program in China and S. E. Asia; and has introduced problem based learning (PBL) in the curriculum. She was the Chairman of the Board and former Associate Dean of Research Higher Degrees of the Faculty of Education. Her goals are to provide an excellent learning experience for students at the Faculty of Education, so that they will become leaders in their respective field of expertise. Prof. Wong is also a Warden of a student dormitory, working with students towards a more holistic university life.
As an Executive Board member of the International Society of Audiology, she has led the organization in establishing new procedures and modernizing its operation, to better support global development in hearing healthcare.
She has dedicated relentless efforts in providing training to those serving children and adults with communication disorders in mainland China. She was formerly a consultant for the Ying Wa Fisherman Foundation and in the Board of Directors for the Shanghai Ying Wa Teachers Training Centre for Teachers of Special Education that trained over 700 principals and 5000 teachers in schools for the deaf in mainland China.
